wont idle

962 olympyk. fairly new model.
cranks good ,,although in my opinion it should have decompression.adjusted carb ,that was set so the motor would get about 5000 rpm,, smoke like heck.. it idled like that ,but dont know if i could get it back there. nor care to.ive adjusted within what i consider a safe range,,an she just dont idle,, so the chain will stop.im cleaning the exhaust now. hope this works . nice saw. cuts good ,but the chain gotta behave it self. any ideas appreciated. one other thing ,,the sprockets alrite ,,but the chain drivers are really worn. different than what ive seen with sprocket in fair shape. thanks. tm .

Hmmm.... Tony I know that you've read the stuff about carb adjustment. If you can't get it to idle without the clutch engaging I would be looking for an airleak in the intake or a bad clutch spring.

Hey TM, I'm not sure what carb that has but check the needle lever adjustment. I had replaced some carb kits recently and if the needle lever adjustment was to high. the low end adjustment/idle control was impossible. Some of the carbs list the height adjustment but just be sure that is not allowing the vacum diaphram to flood the carb. If its out of adjustment the idlewill be to fast or not at all. All so check for air leaks. Good luck

thanks for the advice. ive had it apart,
cleaned it and examined the diapphram... looks new. adjusted to the best of my ability. this saws worth it ,so im taking it to shop .it cuts well enough that yep i would have bought it ,even if id known,, i would need a better saw man than i,, to straiten it out...oh well ,i got a hundred an a quater in it now ..
guess we ll see what the real cost to get it rite will be, now. win some, lose some, rains some out.thanks again.tm
