wont start

Hi, I just bought a husky 268 xp. It ran for about 10 minutes then stopped. It has 100 psi when cold. I put a kit in the carb. I replaced the coil off of another 268. It has spark, I put some gas in the carb. but not even a pop. Should the compression be higher? thanks for you help Ron

I'm no expert but from what i have read and researched it should be higher. But I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. lol

Pull the muffler and have a look. Post some pics. Guessing it won't be pretty.

A lot higher like 150-170 psi , are you sure about the gauge?

What sort of a gauge was it. If it has a tube it will not read correctly. It has to be one of the type where the there is no tube and the gauge sits right on top of the spark plug hole.

Its a craftsman that screws in with a Schrader valve. Tomorrow I will borrow my neighbors and see if I get the same reading.

I got the same reading from another screw in compression gauge. I will pull the muffler next and post some pic's. thanks for all you help

I pulled the jug off and saw the jug and piston were in bad shape. My next question is the quality of the kit to buy and also can I step it up to a 272 and will I run into any problems with a compression release. thanks Ron

Ron, welcome to the site. If you go back to the main menu and drop down to the "chainsaw" forum you'll get a lot more info. Those guy do nothing but build saws, and can hook you up with the proper parts to upgrade your saw. Good luck, Joe.
