This had to happen , a thread on how much wood you have burned so far!

I'm about a week from using one cord of mixed hardwood this heating season

, I have a semi-efficient wood furnace and a 2,300 sqft ranch.

With wood being my method of heating 100% of the time and an avg. temp.

of around 74* I'm estimating about 3 cords will be used this year.

How's the season stacking up for the rest of ya?

Jeff

So far in Ct. its been fairly mild. I'm down only about 1/2 chord.

I would predict that if you have already burned close to 1 chord you are on course to exceed your estimate of 3.

LOL you wanna start the EPA stove vs OWB war again dont ya??:hmm3grin2orange: I have to guess here because we have added to and taken out of same pile next to the OWB but probably 2 1/2 cords so far since mid September. Before you stove guys load the big guns remember I am heating 2 buildings toasty warm, its 75 in here right now, the gas heat has not run yet this winter and I am heating my water. To give you an idea what I am heating last winter I burned $3,000.00 worth of gas for the house (heat plus water) AND burned 4-5 cords to keep my shop building warm. The OWB has been a good choice so far for me and my situation.

God the OWB bashing has ran its course this year, I hope!

I hope ta hear from people using everything from double barrel stoves to high efficiency gasification boilers.

It seems like I've heard the wood furnace run a lot this year or am I the only one?

We are 1-2 cords in already, mixed , mid btu wood. Add-on wood furnace, efficiency? not sure, house is 3000sqft, 1840's, no insulation, maintaining 69* inside when its 0* outside is a diligence thing, but haven't had to bump the gas furnace on yet, so not too bad. The wood furnace is rated to heat up to 2600sqft. When it's 20* or warmer it's easy to keep 70*, below that, ehhh, have to change wood mixtures, if the wind is kickin' , better add a sweater.

2 cords -1,800 square house.
2.5 cords 3,200 square house.
Both 1890's house - preparing to get better insulated.
1/2 cord in my garage.
Looks like I'm on a record setting pace, don't care as long as VECTREN doesn't get my money.

Though it's been mild here in Ct. I started burning early. I'm at almost a cord already in a Vemont Castings Vigilant. 1500sq. ft. house with the stove in the basement. I've been burning it pretty cool so it's already time for a chimney cleaning today. I won't tell you about the little chimney fire I had last night! :D

1/2 a cord of mostly red/white oak with some cherry and punky hard maple early in the season. The stove is a Hearthstone heating a 1850 SF 2-year old house, well insulated and with insulated glass throughout.

wood used

as of now i`m gonna say 1/4 cord of wood keeping the temp 73 , i did have the back up heat (propane )come on, because of thermostat prolbems,,,(thanks to everyone`s help i got that issue fixed,,,,,annyway the propane guy stopped by said "that he was in the neighborhood and figured that he would topp my tank off" well he only put 21 gal in the 100 gal tank,,,
i`ve been using some soft wood , and only loading half full , but will start with the hard wood if the weather stays cold!!! will try to finish cutting that shag bark hickory today;)
stay warm everyone

2800 ft2 20 y/o stick frame in Central PA...

So far almost a cord of mostly punky mixed hardwood that I couldn't/wouldn't give away. Made the mistake of letting some sit next to the stove overnight and found some groggy ants in the family room the next morning.

The last few days got really cold and windy, so I started burning oak and locust at night. We usually try to keep the house around 74, but last night I sat down to watch a movie and I let it creep up to 79 without realizing!

btw; we have a rather inefficient Baker Double Eagle with a blower.

We have used almost a cord and a half. Average house temp- 76 to 78:) Add-on wood furnace, 2400 square feet. We have been burning since the end of september. Propane furnace hasn't kicked on yet.

A little less then a cord. Maple.punky elm and a little ash. 3500 sq ft 1907 two story. Old Royal add on furnace in the basement. No gas used thus far. Will I make it all the way through Feb? Probably not. Checked the Vectren site to find past useage without wood. ~ $350 t0 $400 per month for D,J,F. December bill $63 gas Hot water. July bill $54.(Kids and showers)

I haven't counted this year, but I used to burn 30 m3 (about 8,3 cords?) past years. Then I installed a system that takes warmth from ground (I don't know systems name in english) and uses it to warm water for radiators and hot water for consumption. By the way, the compressor in the "system" is made in USA, so I think you might have same kind of things in use there?
Since that my wood consumption lowered to 20 m3 (5,5 cords?) and electric bills dropped too.
My house is rebuild 1938 (It was firstly build about 1870 hundred meters away it's current location) and it's made of beams/logs. Curious ones can see it in my profile.:p

Probably about 1 1/2 cords, 1800 sq. ft. house, avg. temp. in house 68 to 74 degrees. Heat 100% with wood so far. Power company can stick their bill!!!:chainsaw: LOL!!!!!!!

2-3 cords of green sugar maple, beech, and iron wood. Started the OWB in mid Sept and it hasn't gone out. Keep 1,200 sqft house around 80 degrees. It's 79.7 right now :) I say 2 to 3 as I run wood from the processor into an old pto manure spreader without a beater, back spreader into the wood shed and kick on the pto. I stacked a load once and it was +- 2 face cords. I've burned two loads plus and I had some left in the shed. I just had 55+- pulp cords of green hardwood trucked in to season for next years market and for our burning pleasure this winter :)

Temperature is still over the freezing point (+8 to+10°C) in our area. We fired only 1 cubic meter. In the night I use a thin blanket and only one dog so far ;)

But it is getting colder...

Greetings,
Vincent
