Hello:

I am new to this site but it looked like a good place to post a question. I am looking at buying a Northern Leader wood furnace model 8123. They were manufactured in Gibbon, MN. I am unable to find anything on this brand with the exception of a single reference on this site. I am wondering if this is a good brand? I am looking to heat my 2 story house with it by adding it on to the exisitng forced air ducting.
Any insite would be appreciated.

Just an opinion

My parents installed a Leader 24 years ago and it's been a great furnace. No problems at all, I just couldn't tell you the model though. I use a Century stove and she uses about half the wood, maybe 2/3 a cord so far this year, that I use.

You will find a bunch of people who have wood add on furnaces into the ductwork. Can't speak for them and not familiar with the brand however I am 2 years into this add on as opposed to woodstoves prior and they are great and you are doing a wise thing.

Only advice I would give is to add a humidifier if you haven't planned to already.

i dont have that brand but i have a wood furnace, its kinda hungry but i dont have to go outside to feed it, and i could keep my 3000 sf house 80 degrees if i wanted to.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm looking at spending $500 for a used Leader in good shape. Is it worth this? I don't know a lot more cause I havent' seen it yet but he said its as low as he would go.

Also regarding the humidifier, is there such a thing as a humidifier that attaches into the ductwork or are you talking about a stand-alone unit?

Thanks again

500$ sounds great if "good shape" means everything works and it is not all caked up or burnt out.

The humidifier is attached to unit (pre duct entrance) after install with mine. Think I've got a picture... Ahhh I've uploaded that file before, I'll take another one
