I've seen some of you talk about heating your water with wood along with heating your house. I have gas hot water heating with radiators. What would be a good choice for heating both the hot water and hot water heat w/
radiators? How much wood do you burn per year and how much does the heater cost?

Thanks,

Jack

It would be alot easier to do this with a boiler, Or outdoor wood boiler. Then it is just a matter of running the pipes and adding a domestic water to water heat exchanger to your hot water tank. Sometimes you can find wood/coal boilers in the local classifieds at a good price. I have an AHS multifuel ( Coal/wood/oil ) boiler and it was pricey, $5,800 but the alternative, oil/gas heat would cost me about $2,000 a year to heat my house. Now it cost me about $300 a year for the coal. I usually only burn about 1 cord of wood a year.

The wood comsumption almost completley depends on the size of your home, insulation value, tightness, outside air temp..etc...Nobody's are usually exactly the same...
