Just gotta train him/her to bring you the wood to the stacking area instead of running the other way! Kinda like a dog that will get you a beer from the fridge!

my german shepherd does that, brings it in her bed and chews it to pieces for me to clean up. wish she would learn to bring me beer.

That same dog would eat any wood that was punky enough to chew up...of course it would come up a few hours later....once you saw him eating grass you knew to leave him outside until he cleared himself LOL

Our golden when I was growing up would steal wood from our neighbor's woodshed (1/4 mile away) and leave it in our yard.
so this is how you "scrounge" all your fire wood? you probably make the damn dog split it too, don't you? then you take all the credit:buttkick::happy:

This dog was absolutely nuts from puberty through age 6....by age 8 he had calmed down and became the best dog a boy could ask for until his passing at 14 1/2. He was the only pet we have ever had to put down, and probably the hardest to say goodbye to.

My first dachshund many years ago was like that. Didn't dig tkhrought piles but was convinced that barking at them would bring them out. She could go on for hours. Let her out the next day and right back to the same spot.

We had a shepherd mix that was dynamite on rodents. She would pounce on them in the grass like a fox and get them too. She tangled with just about everything: skunks and porky were the only two she didn't kill. She stunk like cat pee terribly and had scratches all over her face. Went outside to find a dead mink she had caught. She also brought us a dead muskrat and numerous mice and chipmunks.

hahahaha, too funny! I had a St. Labradoodle that would haul in branches and small logs to the campfire area. Did it on his own. And I used an Irish wolfhound/sheepdog cross to drag logs out, but that was my idea. He eventually enjoyed it though and got good at it.

I could deal with just about any rotten carcass my dogs would bring back, but when they'd visit the neighbor's horse farm and bring back the hoof trimmings I'd get grossed out. It just seemed to me like digging through a bathroom trash can and fishing out old toe nail clippings. Barf city.

My dachshund wasn't afraid to get in a good tussle. I tore down an old garage once, got down to the floorboards and she was going wild, Lifeted a couple of floorboards and she dove right in the middle of a batch of rats. Score Dachshund 4, rats 0 except the dog did come out with a scratched/bitten nose.

My little one likes to chew and eat anything that falls off the wood I bring inside. She also is glued to the stack when it is first brought in. Will chase chipmunks and squirrels all day, but the bigger girl is the enforcer. She isn't as fast, but she has killed her fair share of mice, voles, and chippys.

My first Golden made it to 17 and the one I have now is almost 12. I dread the day. She has a bad heart but still will fetch, break limbs, and swim almost every day. Never found a two-legger as dedicated and dependable.
