Would you attempt to climb this Sweetgum the one to the left theres no way to drop top without rigging it.

Well the Picture is too large to upload Grrrrrrrr

Lets try this again its the sweet gum with the Long branch up to the right i cant get the bucket to it and it has to be removed.

Question to Mike Maas

Mike, excellent picture illustrating technique!

I have a question........excuse me if it sounds stupid, but here goes.

If the arborist can't get his bucket truck in close enough to remove the limb, then how is he going to set his guys without climbing? Perhaps I am missing the obvious or just reading your description incorrectly, but this stirs interest in me. I am relatively new to the trade, in fact still schooling, therefore, I am always trying to learn as much as I can! Your response will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Mike,

I thought that that was how you would do it..............but I figured that an experience arborist might have a few tricks up his sleeve that I wasn't aware of............thanks for you quick response.

As a side note, I too have the fun toys to tackel this job......... but as I am sure you would agree, there are always more that would make the job that much more interesting and enjoyable.

Thanks Mike i hadnt even thought about speed lining it down.Maybe i'll just speed line myself right by it with 020 in hand. :D

John, :D
TShane When you get into the Sherrill catalog you'll never get done buying all those Nifty Gadgetts.:blob2:

DDM,

LOL!!
If ya wanna do that, or at least speed line it, My buddy's Puget Sound Ropes Plasma line would be just the ticket. 1/2 inch size is 31000 lb test, stretch is 0.5%!! kinda pricy at 3.00 a foot or so...., unless ya got a connextshun!!

As a last resort, I might try using a power pruner, or preferably my 21 foot Silky pole saw to top out the branch. Some plywood on the roof would handle the resultant small falling pieces . I'd be tied in to the other side, and up the leaner 8-10 feet or so. Then I could reach almost to the tips with the pole saw. Why guy the tree at all, it doesn't look unsafe? A great idea if warranted, for sure though.

Speed lining looks to be best, if logistics allow it to be gotten high enough.

Great work and graphic stuff, Mike

Rog, the dodg

It appears that if you stood in the main crotch you could maybe brush it out with a sharp pole saw without going too far out and rig it from there. It's difficult to tell from the picture the true scale of what we are talking about. I assume the brittle nature of sweetgum has you worried. If it were me, just looking at the picture, I would double crotch to climb the leader over the house, then bomb the rest over the yard if I had a clear shot of it.

looks like rbtree and i are on the same page, we must have submitted our posts simultaneously. cheers mate!
