This is my first post to the forum after lurking for some time now. I first heard about Walker's Saw Shop here and the mods they can do to improve performance. I was a tad skeptical at the results until I used my saw after having the muffler modified. ????! I would not have believed the results if I hadn't experieced them first hand. I recently purchased an 044 and it will be having its muffler done very soon as well.

I have a pair of Walkers mufflers one for a new 460 and one for my 360 pro.
How does the idle hold on the 360 with the new muffler? I think my 360 has more idle "surge" and then back down again and up and down and ....
It doesent die, and acclerates great and its in tune. My 460 responded like a champ with no problems and it really turns out the power, I am sure it will make a huge diff with your 440!
Let me know any thoughts on the 360. When I put the stock muffler on, it seems to be fine! So I am wondering if this is normal or if something is up.
P.S. I have put the spark screens back in and it seemed to help a bit. Not sure, it could just be in my head

Once I put the new muffler on the idle had to be turned down a bit. The throttle response is great and it idles just fine with no surge. I'm not sure what the problem with yours could be. Perhaps someone else will chime in that is more knowledgeable about this type of thing.

My 044 has to have some parts replaced before it is ready to cut anything. It had a run in with the skid loader of its previous owner. Poor thing.

Hi Drew, in addition to what Jokers said, you may just change the metering diaphram, that run on or surge is very symptomatic of a stretched diaphram.

Hi Erik,

If you continue to have trouble setting the 360, drop me a line,
I'm all of 20 minutes from you. There are always trees to
cut down at my place. Where are you doing your saw
business in St. Cloud? Talk to ya later.

I have tested the low jet, and turned it down and still have the same problem, it surges up and down.
How did my metering diagphram get stretched?
And how do I resolve that issue?
Thanks guys-

Drew

Drew78;

You say you have tested the low jet and turned it down. Does this mean you leaned the low speed?
When does the idle speed surge? when it is sitting, or when you are moving the saw around and changing its position bar up, bar down, rolled left or right, etc. One way suggests a little lean, the other a little rich on low speed mixture.

This is occuring at idle sitting in my hands with the saw in a "bucking" position, like I am going to make a cut straight down. I have leaned it out, richened it up, left it in the middle....
I have put a digital tach to it to see, and we are talking about an idle change between somewhere around 2600 rps and 3200 rpms at idle. That is the surge, it will go down, then after a bit back up, then later back down. Now I know the thing isnt gonna idle like my truck, but am wondering if this is excessive or within 'spec'? Its just that I dont notice it with my 460.
