Hi all,

Since my super 2 isn't running, I pulled out the old XL-12 I bought a couple summers ago. I'm not sure how old it is, but it's in minty condition (bar still says homelite). The guy I bought it from had just had it serviced (still had pickup tag on it) and paid >$100 for the work. I paid $50 for the saw. It starts easy and seems to run great, real torquey. But, it's got a manual oiler on it. I can tell the oiler works, but how often do you pump the oiler when you're cuttin? Every 15 sec or so? Or can you tell by feel/look when it needs a shot? My guess is that if you can tell it needs a shot, it should've probably had more lube by then!

It's a red saw, any idea how old it would be? Or if I might find an owner's manual for it on line? (eg. pdf format?)

If it helps "ball-parking" the age, here's a pict.

Thanks,

Brent

Great lookin' saw!
You pict shows that your XL12 still has the S/N & UT# tag ...
Send me that info & I will tell you what year it was built. They were last built in 1987.

The amount of oil will always be a judgement call. Recommendations include:
- 'presoak' (off the bar) your chain in bar oil after every use.
- depending on what you are cutting, vary the 'thumb' stroke (1/2 to full) on a regular time beat.
- monitor the oil throw-off

Hi,

Ya, I thought it was purdy enough to take home... I was actually there to buy a welder from him. Gotta love it when the "tool-a-holic" type decides to sell off his stuff and move across the country.

I'll send you the info off the id tag... any info you could provide would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Brent
