Would a 24" bar and skip chain work OK on a decent running Homey XL12 for flush cutting stumps or would it be lame and/or dangerous (kick back)? I am looking to put together sort of a beater setup to deal with several stumps on the property and I own the Homelite. :chainsawguy:

Ought to work like a champ!!!! If your hearing and body holds up!!!!

I ran a super XL automatic for years with a full comp 24" bar. Wore out many chains and two bars; No problem if you keep the chain sharp.

That saw has original internals and still runs great. Heavier and shakes me quite a bit more than my newers stihls though.

My XL12 cuts just as slow with a 24" bar and full comp as it cuts with a 20".

If its a super xl and you don't push it in the heat for long amounts of time ,it should work well. I once seized an xl12 bucking up a large pin oak on a hot day. Keep a good sprocket matched with a good chain as this cuts down on vibration and wear and tear on your saw as a whole.

24" bar ????

if you wear rubber palmed gloves and good hearing protection i see no ill in your plan. one word of warnin keep a real close eye on the bar oil. make sure the bar oil oiler output is kept clear of dirt and garbage. also cut for short periods and take a break from sawin. you will find cuttin stumps that close too the ground very tireing. the saws exshaust is going to be on the bottom side so watch that it does not start the saw dust on fire, i have had it happen very ambariskin:hmm3grin2orange: just my beer monies worth:yoyo:
