Young Tulip tree(maybe 5 yr old) with dual trunk, I want to eliminate one.

How do I eliminate one of the trunks? they are divided under the soil.

That is my question, I want to do a reduction to one, but I need to know if I dig out around it and cut or just cut it close to the ground, and should I apply anything where I make the cut. Thanks for your input.

Yeah that's young enough to remove one. Dig so you can see ppoint if attachment

Thanks, and would you recommend any kind of application of any substance where I cut it off? or just bury it in soil?

No just cut it off nice and clean, perpendicular to the stem.
