Book of Knowledge on dating husky saws?

Is there a book that dates husky saws by the serial number? Year of manufacture?

Last year I found a mint condition hardly used husky 266se serial number # 008886. This saw has a full wrap bar, a molded HUSQVARNA on the clutch cover with no brake, it never had a brake. Seeing this it tells me its an older one. My first 266 se had a Husqvarna decal on the clutch cover.
I never seen a used saw so clean except for new ones. Thanks for any help dating it.

Silver tag goes to 1986. The first digit is the last number of the year. The next 2 are the week. The rest is the item off the assembly line that week. Black tags got from 1987 to 1996 and then it says the full year.

That’s ok with me swedish gals rock me baby all night long. Lol As long as the flannel has a trap door on the butt.? Plus they keep me warm too. I’m too old and should know better, lol

Don't believe you can date the saw with a 6 digit code.

That only is true with 7 digit numbers, after some time in 1984. Saws made from some time in 1982 (as I recall it - but if it is there you'll see it) up to that time in 1984 at least usually have the full year on the tag, separate from the serial numbers - and I have found no way to date Husky saws made before that by the serial number. You can get an idea by looking at the crank lobes though, as one of them often (or always?) have numbers on them, that indicate when the crank was made.

You are right, as far as I know - at least nobody that I know of has found a reliable way to do it.

The "cutoff" time was supposed to be 1986 and before vs. 1987 and on. It mostly happened exactly that way, but I have seen one or two mistakes made very close to the cutoff time.

Also, this doesn't apply to saws made at the Tomos factory in Yugoslavia/Slovenia. This might be relevant if the saw was a late production 266xp, but not with a 266se
