I have a smaller foxtail palm which (seeming out of the blue) is exhibiting brown stains on the trunk on the East side of the tree near the base. It seems to be sap. I do see very tiny holes on the tree in spots (maybe 1/16th inch), but these also exist randomly in other areas and no sap there. It is on the lawn facing side as well. It is worth noting that the lawn was sprayed a couple of weeks ago and this is on the lawn side, maybe 2' from the lawn itself.
I checked into common borers as I was curious and I don't see anything obvious (like Ambrosia beetle). The bark - although cracked - seems well attached and there is no fungus that I can see at the base (like mushrooms).
I am in Coastal Central Florida. We did have relatively high winds (40-50 mph) but it's been about a month. It's been through a hurricane and didn't seem to affect it at all.
Ideas?
