Just picked this up from Homie Depot $200.00 . It only has 6 hours or less on it .They wanted $300. but got it for $200. What you think for the price ? What kind of chain comes on there rental saws because they are JUNK ? It came with a new chain and I didn't cut much wood at all and it stretched and it's dull already. Cut great for the first 10 cuts or so then it went to **** fast.

Sweet deal for only $200. Around me HD sells their used Makita electric chainsaws for not much less.

That saw needs a 7900 top end, a non-cat muffler, and likely some better chains - but it sounds like a good deal anyway!

I have one of these also. New chain was a semi-chisel and I'll use it up or save it for stumps. Same size chain as my Stihl 3/8 50 72 dl and I have a couple of those. Replaced the carb (no limiters), and have a non-cat muffler coming. It'll end up a Dolmar 6400 I think. Next year it might be a 7900. If it runs like it should I'll be ok with it.

Better chain yes, 7900 top end why? The 6400 has proven to be strong saw by those that have actually run one.

i liked my 6401 at 64cc very much. Having had both- I dont see a need for the 79cc topend (I have bigger saws though)

What causes sparks to come off the bar ? When your cutting or not. My brother in laws Stihl 441 does it also.

Why not? why not add 15 cc's of grunt without changing anything else? I guess if he's happy with the saw and it runs good, that's fine. If not, it's a very easy swap!

I think Saw Troll is right. My Makita/7900 dwarfs my 2171 jonsered and my 036 pro. I just don't see the point of having a big heavy saw unless it has the cc's to match.

Is the chain the right gauge for the bar? Is the bar bent? Is the oiler working? It's adjustable, maybe it's turned down... Is the chain sharper on one side, causing it to lean over as you cut?

No experience with the chain, but it looks like it's throwing some decent noodles.
Sparks obviously come from from friction, make sure it's oiling well, and check the bar for burrs. It was a rental saw - probably not well taken care of. But along the lines of saw troll's logic - you got a great deal on the saw, upgrade to some of the components and you still got a great deal.

I can give you $200 reasons not to 79cc it....run it like you rented it until it drops dead...or you do. So what if you build up some shoulder muscles along the way....what are ya Norwegian or sumtin ? American girls like big broad shoulders not european man bag holders.

Sawtroll, l have a solo 681 & l see what you mean by the smallest engine on a platform is not going to give you the best power to wieght. But these saw are not bulky and are quite lite for what they are. Forget the 'specs' for a sec, put one in your hands and you will change your mind.(maybe not u troll)lol. They feel great to use and the clever engineering makes it feel lighter and smaller than it is. The 550/562/390 are well designed like that but the 372/576/395 feel big and bulky lMHO............go on shoot me to pieces!lol

If he likes it, then great! He's got a running, cutting professional grade saw, and it only cost $200! Plus the cost of a decent chain!
