Was trimming up a big camphor laurel and the neighbor of the HO asked me to take off a couple extra branches, no worries. While we're doing clean up he brings out this pioneer 620 and hands it to me saying 'for you, take it'. First free saw I've ever had! Never had a pioneer before, but this thing must whoop a 660... after all it weighs about twice as much ;-)

He said something about it needing a spring, I'm guessing he meant the recoil spring. His English wasn't that great so it was hard to get information from him but he said it worked very well until the spring broke last year. Looks complete, will have to see if I can get it going again just for kicks.

I'm about 15 pages and a 6 pack into the 380 pages(!) of the pioneer thread. Wish the search function was working so I could hunt down some pioneer 600 specific threads, but this is pretty interesting reading anyways. This is the first old school saw I've owned, looking forward to having a look at it and getting it going again.

Shaun, you can use google to search here.

Go to google, click 'Advanced Search'

Type in your search entry and scroll down and you can type in www.arboristsite/chainsaw in 'search a domain/website' and it'll throw up all the relevant hits.

You can even refine it by putting in someone's username in brackets after the initial search string

Although it sounds like you're having fun reading.

alright... couldn't help it. Had to go out and get some pics after reading up a bit more on the pioneers. Interesting saws! Sorry about the crap pics, saw is in the back of the chip bin and its getting closer to midnight here. The weid yellow/white comes from shining a torch on the saw to try to get the carmera to focus and then the flash going off.

So turns out I got a 620! I (still!) havent figured out how to put the pics in the thread, had a read of a guide but it showed the old way of doing it :-( Looks like the saw is complete, I got a bag of stuff with it that includes all the internal bits of the recoil, spring, pull handle and the cover that goes on the outside. The guy said everything was there and he's got all the parts sorted and put in zip lock bags so I guess it is.

You need to read faster or drink slower or you're gone to be in a world of hurt by the time you hit page 380--950 brews!!!

Time for me to call it a night! I've settled on a ratio of two 6 packs to 30 pages/day ;-) I got side tracked by googling the site for 620 posts and nearly came unstuck. somehow google returned me a page that had arabic as the user language and after that all my AS pages were all in arabic and I couldnt work out how to get it back to anglish! After a while I got in to the user menu and just tried clicking every button :)

Nice gift Shaun. My first new saw was this Pioneer 2073, in 1972. It lost a Bar Tension Spring. Never seen a bar set up like that before.
