This was posted in the eBay/Craigslist sticky thread. I emailed the guy from Craigslist and asked if he would ship it. The saw was $120 to my door. I thought it looked to be a pretty nice saw under the grime, but had no idea it would be this nice. All it needed was a cleaning and new fuel lines. I had it all apart cleaning it tonight, but don't have the right size tygon, so it's not running yet. It has great spark. I had the cylinder off and everything looks great.

Everything is original, except for new paint on the muffler.

The bottom's hardly scratched up. Even the rim looks almost new.

Brad, I had no idea you were an old Poulan fan. I have to say, the Stihls and Huskies of the time had nothing on the older mag Poulans, they are darned good machines. I have a 7000 and it's Craftsman cousin that have been sitting around waiting for my attention. They are BEASTS. Nice find. It would be fun to see how its stacks up against a more modern saw. I'll bet you can afford to take a bit more of the rakers to make up for RPM deficits.
 
I actually have 10 Poulans right now. I wouldn't call myself a fanatic, like some of the Poulan lovers, but I'm certainly a fan. Thay have a hard core following for sure!

The guy I got the saw from was kind enough to send me a couple before pictures.

As you probably know. The 4000 is my favorite "firewood saw". I have 4 of them...LOL I have one with the same decals as yours. The saw was in great condition, like yours. But the right side decals were scuffed up also. As far as I know, no one makes replacements. I made some for mine. They aren't "Professional" decals, and wouldn't be restoration quality, but they look better than none at all, or scuffed up ones.:)
I think I still have your address, so I'll mail ya some. You can use them or not.

The fact is, they are probably better than what came on them from the factory!
Add to that the fact that if anyone bends over far enough to critique them I'll probably just take a good swift kick at whatever is sticking up!!!:buttkick:

That's really a nice saw, and decals look great! I never ran a 4000, but a guy was cutting fire wood with my dad and me one day and I was impressed!

Thanks for the kind words. I just enjoy sharing my hobby.

I stopped by Nik's shop and met up with him and Andre. Within just a few minutes I had new fuel lines on the saw and it was running nicely. We then amused ourselves by revving three Poulan 4000s there in the shop. It would have definately put a smile on your face...just like it did ours:clap:
