I came across this chainsaw and thought it would be a good one for me to start the second addition of CAD on.

It's a Mac 10-10 model # 600002u Serial Number 13-98307

This will be my first saw to actually try to work on. I have it all cleaned up (wasn't in bad shape).

I need a manual and maybe some tips on where to start. Any help you can give would be awesome.

Running

I have torn the whole thing apart and cleaned it. Did a poor mans carb rebuild kit (carb cleaner), new plug and a few hours of play time.

I got it started and it actually ran. I know I will need a new fuel line since at the carb it is just barely hanging on.

The chain is toast and rusted to where it doesnt move. I see that the oil tank is empty and I am hoping that I can just fill it up and that the pump is still good.

I will try and keep this updated. Maybe I can cut something by the end of the week.

--you could rise and clean out both tanks first, just use old mix. Get the crud out, can't hurt, check filters, etc. Take your time, one thing at a time, eventually it will work!

Clean Tanks

Would I put the mix gas into the oil tank also to clean it out? Swoosh and pour out?

Today I went out again to try and start it to make sure it wasnt a lucky thing yesterday with it starting. 1 pull with the choke and 1 pull with choke off. Started and ran. 30 degrees outside so I know it isnt cold natured.

I am going to replace the fuel hoses for sure this week and get a new fuel filter. I am also going to ask my buddy for a used chain and try to cut something before I buy a new bar and chain.

I want to put the max size bar and chain on it. I won't be using it much and don't mind babying my cut so a good suggestion of a max bar size would be appreciated.

The problem with getting a McCulloch 10-10 as a fix up saw is that they usually don't need much to get them going. I picked up my non running 10-10A for $20 and all I did was put fuel in it and adjust the carb and it has been running great since. My SP81(82cc 10-10) took a little more to get running, I replaced the coil and flywheel key with the ones in my 10-10 and it is one of my go to firewood saws, I even got used parts for the 10-10 to get it going again.

--ya, just rinse it out good and drain it with some old mix. No reason to leave decades of crud in there.

Soaked scrubbed and oiled the hain and now it is in good shape.

Did a carb kit on it today and a new fuel line and filter. Can anyone tell me what the carb adjustments are on this saw?

Welcome to the X-10 taped-handle club!

Thanks for the link. I got a shop manual for it. I need a owners manual also. I thought I would ask for the proper carb adjustment since gas has changed so much and I know that experiance with the saw has to be better than the manual.

On the handle, I am going to get some bicycle bar tape. Maybe gel tape and wrap it.

Go to your local auto parts store and get heater hose. More cushion and it looks better.

So much for the first fix

Well I was out putting the final adjustments on the carb (cut, adjust, cut, adjust) was on my what i thought might be my final adjustment and the bolt that the air cleaner and top goes on breaks off, down the carb and locked it up with a nice hole in the side of the piston.

I am so mad I could just scream!!!!!!!!!:angrysoapbox::angrysoapbox:

Woooo hoooooooo

Thanks to MacTodd i have a piston coming and will be able to get back to it.

Now I am excited again. I will keep you posted on how it goes.
