The kill switch wasn't working, but it ended up being the wires. A little work with the soldering iron and some heat shrink fixed that.

The carb is out. Now to do a rebuild. The kits seem cheap enough.

Any tips on cleaning up the crud in the saw? I don't have air available, other than a computer duster can. It's pretty grimy in there.

Air is the best way to blow chunks out... When I do a full rebuilds I dunk all my parts in a concentrated degreaser... 2 gallons of purple degreaser from O'Reillys or Menards/Home Depot in a 5 gallon bucket topped off with water. I emerse my parts but that is for total tear downs...

You can get a gallon of that purple industrial degreaser and dilute it in a normal spray bottle... spray onto saw (don't spray inside saw) let sit for a bit and rinse with cold water from garden hose... You might want to do a little scraping with a screw driver to knock the chunks out and then let a degreaser do the rest for you... You can also take all your loose parts and emerse them in a solution to really get them clean... $8-$10 per gallon is what it usually costs and it's biodegradable unlike hosing it down with carb cleaner... Plus the pressure from the carb cleaner will make 1/2 of it bounce off the saw and back on your skin... not a big deal but some people are sensitive to chemicls...

I'd suggest taking your muffler off and then covering the intake and exhaust ports with duct tape and then hose it down with degreaser and then rinse it off... more controlled that way. I'd probably take off the coil so it doesn't get wet too (just to play it safe)... Rubber gloves are a must also!
