There is a very clean 025 on craigslist and I talked the guy down to $65 for it. The problem, is that is has a scored piston and is only the power head. I was thinking I could put a new piston and rings in it, as well as find a bar. Then sell it for some profit. I think the most I could possibly have to put into it would be around $110. I know this is not an MS880 that some of you guys flip and make a lot of money on, but it is something for me to make a little extra change on. What do you think? What could I sell it for? I was thinking about $250?

There are three or four on my local craigslist for $200 and are not moving. One looks mint...

I bought one for under $40 that would run with good piston, but considered it a great deal. Watch them on eBay to see what they go for.

Same here. my local craigs list has a couple 025 and the ms250s going for 150-200. Been on there for months. Even if you could get the parts cheap enough to make a small profit, its going to take a long time to sell.

Be careful, asking how much a saw is worth might get you a lashing around here....

That said, the best way to determine (top dollar) 'value' of a saw is to check completed auctions on ebay. When it comes to the 025, I've fixed & flipped more than a few of them since they're easy to come by & easy to work on. I sell good runners in good aesthetic condition for $175 w/ bar & chain, or $150 powerhead only. Every region is different, but around here that's all you can get on a regular basis for that model.

If you're determining profit margin & how much you want to make be conservative on what you think you can sell for . . . budgeting based on the upper end sales amount will end up meaning you spend a lot of time working on a saw to break even or have a saw that won't sell since you can't compromise on asking price.

Around here..I couldn't pull in any interested buyers for an 025 for more than $125 to $150 tops.

Soo..it wouldn't be worth my time and effort...sorry...just being honest

Now if it was an 026...that would be a whole different situation..!!

Are you going to be putting OEM parts back in the saw, I know I would be pissed if I spent $250 for a ms250 and found an aftermarket piston? I think you are figuring a little light at $110 into the saw and you are figuring top dollar on resale. That being said, I would buy the saw and rebuild it for cheep and run the piss out of it.

Yeah, but this saw has the electric start :D. (no pull handle). Once you push the button - vroom and away you go. The regular 025's and such don't have that option. ;)

Scored piston you say?..........my max offer on that saw with a scored piston is $30, maybe a whisker more if its MINT.
$50+/- if you really want it for personal use.
But......buy the time you paid for the saw, bought a new block assy, new fuel line, impulse hose, fuel filter, air filter....etc....you gotta ask yourself....."is it really worth it"?

When they were still being sold as new units, they were $299 brand new.....so keep that in mind.

The saw pictured above was a straight gassed saw

After getting everything for that saw (plus starting card and handle) I have just over $85

Thanks for all of the advice! I think that at that price the only thing I could do with it is use it for myself... maybe. I told him where I was at with it and he decided he is going to see if he can get a better offer.
