I just started this week at a large dealership, and they stick me in a
small room with this jerk, he is kind of quiet, and all he does is sharpen
chains.......
He never talks, and he likes to burn cutters, I think he is german.........

I do not know if I am going to get along with him or not...
 
You got to love the Germans for machine tool design. A few years ago I purchased a Holz-Her Edgebander (for those that don't know, a machine which is used to put a piece of laminate, solid wood or veneer on the edge of a piece of plywood or particle board). When the technician had finished setting up the bander, he handed me the key to the rear "hood". One end opened the hood, the other opened a bottle of beer.

What was the learning curve? Any idea of the price tag? I'm guessing $12000.
 
At least he won't try to get the last donut in the morning, or try to grub some of your lunch. :)
 
yeah well, he could come to work smelling like beer and BO, and talk to you all day while slapping you on the back while you're trying to work. tell the same jokes and stories everyday until you cut your wrists.
IMO, you got a good guy to work with. the burning chains is his problem, not yours. I prefer silence myself, especially while working and driving.

If that thing pisses me off I would just pull the plug.
Burning cutters sounds like operator error.
 
The thing costs $20,000.

I am quite new to using it, but it is my guess that a lot of chains go out of the shop with either burnt cutters, or not all of the damage out of the cutter,
as the only way I can get acceptable results is letting the loop cycle 3 or more times, while I adjust it forward 3 times during, and then dress the stone
before the last pass, not really impressing me as worth $20,000, but they charge $7.00 a loop, 10.00 on the saw, so that helps pay it's way.
I am still tempted to bring in my efco/oregon grinder to use on the rocked
out chains, 1/4 inch, or .48 ga., etc, but it would likely piss off the guy that
paid for this beast.
 
$20,000?? and not diamond or borazon?

How long does it take to go around say a 72dl 3/8? Does it do both sides without intervention?

does both sides, as long as it is not complicated.

I asked about different wheels, but did not get a good reply..............

I find this with most of the grinding wheel style sharpeners, you cant get a lot off without over heating bluing the cutter tooth. You have to take it easy. Plus if the chain is grubby (sap/resin/wood/oil/dust etc) that clogs the cutter wheel more making the problem worse.

I honestly think on a rocked out chain a decent file with the bar/saw mounted in a vice is miles infront.

The Stens rep brought the inventor by yesterday to check up on things,
he ended up staying a couple of hours talking with us, tweaking the machine,
and instructing it in its use, in no ways that the Stens guys could, and now
the machine works very well now, and I am impressed.
He had just come from Va. Beach, where Stihl had bought one, and given them a stamp of approval, which was his chief goal.
The disscussion then deteriorated into subjects like beers, and mammary
bars, something of which we all had a lot of input, that crosses all cultural
barriers.
But I digress.....................................

I know I am responding to an old post, but I wanted to say out that putting a blue ceramic wheel on my 510 made it remove metal soo much faster and cooler than the stock (resenoid) wheels. On a rocked chain I would say it now takes me less than half the time it used to, without burning.
