Hello, I'm new to the forum. I'm getting into chainsaw milling (I know there is a separate forum I have a chainsaw question today.) I'm looking at getting a bigger saw I've got a 455 rancher at the moment. I'm interested in a 090 but was wondering if parts are still available. I've searched and have seen this covered in the past, but a lot can change as time rolls on. I'm 27 (read money is an object) and would hate to buy a saw only to have something break and have trouble getting parts.

Thanks God bless.

Some parts are available but not enough to do a restoration. I rebuilt one recently and got new gasket, seals, bearings, piston, and a lot of missing little bits all OEM from the dealer. A guy on eBay has NOS OEM cylinders for like 500$. What's not available are cosmetic parts. That being said one could probably build a complete "090" from Chinese parts on EBay. I'm of the mindset to stick with OEM whenever possible.

Thank you for the reply Cease. I'd be looking for a good running saw, but like anything things break and if you can't get affordable parts well...

Still lots of parts out there for the 090. New, NOS and aftermarket. A lot of parts commonality with the 070 too. I think if you had one, you would be able to keep it running. For milling however, consider how the tanks are oriented on the 090...

Thank you fearofpavement. It sounds like I could keep the saw running from a mechanical perspective, it just might be a pain to fill the tanks when it is in the mill and even more difficult mid-cut. hmm

i know oem 070 parts are still being manufactured and brought into my region
not sure the deal with 090, i know a guy who was offering good deals for stihl
last year and i got some 090 parts from him

The tank fill locations is the reason I turned down an 070 for milling. I am currently using a 660 and have so far not run it out of fuel in the cut but at least I will not ever have to worry about it. The 090 is just plain expensive to buy and run these days. An 084, 088/880, or Husky 3120 are less expensive and parts are readily available. An 090 is definitely cool but they have become too collectible and supported less and less to the point that they are becoming impractical to use making a more modern big saw a tad more prudent I tend to think.
