Can a 372xp be modified. My local Husky shop told me it couldn't because of the muffler design, there is nowhere to adequately drill the two 3/8 holes. Whatchall think?
Thanks

LOL!!!

Your local Husky shop guys likely still have the tags on thier Mattress.:D

Run a search on "Muffler Mod", grab a couple sandwiches, and enjoy a couple days worth of variations on the matter.

I cut the hole on top front of the muff on the bar side, and plopped a 288XP deflector on it, leaving the factory opening for a "Dual outlet" under the cover.

Some guys just punch a hole right through the Muff bracket and muffler, and squish a screen between.

Get creative. It can be done.

Stay safe!

HAHAHA!! Can't be muffler modded? Sure.

I hate it when people say "Do a Search"... but this is one time where doing a search will give you enough to read to keep you up all night.

Do a search...

your local dealer is full of #### closed minded and must know it all

WOW, your local saw guy probably just isnt into the modding or has had issues with that before (ex: no warranty behind it, and customer blows up their saw). Whatever the reason, saying a 372xp cannot be moddified is highly untrue. This is my own personal saw, its not the best but maybe will give you some ideas and inspiration. Goodluck with your mod quest :D

In the muffler mod thread there is a mod showing a 359 muffler with an internal stealth mod. Essentially the poster ground into the bolt tubes making them into outlets. I did this on mine and really like it. A bit cackly, but strong.

For my 372 I slit the outlet and folded back then opened up the outlet, folded back and welded closed leaving the slot wider. Nice rumble with less cackle than the 359. I posted pictures of my 345 mod in the same thread.

Here's the 288 deflector on the 372 like dingeryote mentioned.

Here's a video.

Yeah its ported. I put a hole about the size of the popup part of the deflector. I think it ended up about 3/4" by 1" or so.

My advice: Get GOOD with a 7/32 file and a flat file. A sharp chain will get you further than a muffler mod. I can't see any muffler mod gaining any more than .2 hp. Not enough to warrant the time and noise for me..
