Found this thread about an easy fix for a stalling 550xp. Hoping someone can confirm it before trying it. My 550xp is very new, probably 10 tanks through it. Recently started stalling after idling for a couple minutes and then takes a few pulls to restart like its flooding. Dunno if its because the weathers colder since I bought it in Nov or so, but anyway its not ideal so I'd like to fix it if possible

It keeps *** covering it up when i type it out regular

Which carb do you have? The fix isn't permanent so I wouldn't think twice about giving it a try.

Don't know yet, air filter off is as far as I've went on it. Right on, I'll probably try it.

i'd take the saw back to the dealer if it is that new and let them fix it.

Moving the screw out 1/4 turn to 1 full turn didn't help mine. I need to go down to 1/2 turn and see what it does. It only started this after the new software, but it only had like 5 tanks on it before that, so who knows. I just vac and pressure tested it tonight and it was perfect, so it is a carb issue. The carb I have is a 7A 520, so not sure if there's an updated one or not. I guess I could look at my new/warranty replacement 550xp, but I don't want to take it apart to find out. It runs perfectly, although it's got like 1/2 a tank through it, so there is that. It is a mid-late 2016 saw, though, so it does have all the updates.

Here's where I initially discovered this "fix" for the 550XP. I've since found that this is not always the cure.. I've had to actually play with notches in the throttle plate to get the last couple I did to run right.

Is playing with notches in the throttle plate messing with something that is already there or you have to make new notches?
Saw is giving me more trouble today. Can't find the registration paper.. Now also after about 2 inches of cutting the chain comes untensioned and won't cut. I'm hoping that i sharpened the chain so crooked it wouldn't cut but that doesn't make too much sense.

I'm not too anxious to take mine apart but looks like i probably should. I'll try 1/4 counter clockwise, then 1/2, then 3/4 if its not working. Or is there a point when I've gone far enough and that's not the issue

I guess the handle has to come off to get that air duct off? I got the screws out of the air duct but couldn't pop it out.

You're talking about the intake? Just use your thumb to slide the handle over (pressing against the Anti-vibe spring), while holding onto the case. It's tight, but they come out fine.

But yeah, I'm actually going to do everything I can with the adjustment before I take it to the dealer to mess with software.

Ran it today at 1/4 turn in from stock (which was 3/4), so at 1/2 turn out from bottomed. It's not quite perfect, but it's REALLY close. I'll put another 1/8 turn in on it and see what it ends up after a couple tanks, next time I cut.
