mass.
This is a 166 i have had for a few years that needed a top end.
I had sent the cylinder to US chrome for a replate and was looking
for a piston and we all know thats not happening. I had done a
bunch of digging around to see what other piston i might be able to work.
I found the Husky 394 to be the closest but needed some work.
First i had the bore the wrist pin bore out from 13mm to 14mm and have
the clip groves recut. Now the 394 piston was .072 taller from top of
pin bore to top of piston so i made a .062 shim out of aluminum to bring
the cylinder up. You can see the shim in two of the pic,s. I ran a couple cuts and checked the plug color, looked good. so i ran the tank down after about
8 cuts. Refueled it and shot the video.
The pic,s of the piston are after the video. Everything looks perfect.

Good Job. I is self fulfilling to make machinery work with your own intuiton. What is the diameter of the piston?

Not sure what the machining would cost.
I'm into it for 20 bucks and a cup of coffee.
Nice to have friends.
The diameter is 56mm. Looked into bike pistons,
other saw pistons and the 394 was the easiest to
mod. All the bike pistons were way to tall.

Lee, now that's ingenuity! Very impressive. Shows there's more than one way to skin a cat.

PM me when you have a price

Definately keep us posted on price. I would probably be interested in at least two. I love that saw! I'm not talkin homie 750 love here, but not too far off.

Great job Lee. Very slick and I cant really see a problem in the idea.

That saw sounds great. Looks like you hit pay dirt with the 394 piston. Nice job. What kind of compression has it got? One might machine a pop-up and get by with just a gasket if the compession was'nt to high. Good luck with the 166. Rick!

im interested to.

the guy i just bought the 045 and 56 from has a domar 166 with slightly scored piston. but i he doesnt know where the top plastic is.

is this saw worth getting cylinder might be okay. is the plastic hard to come by?

dang cad has been bad lately
