Echo sells a falling spike for this saw as an add on option. I bought one and it turns out the holes it mounts on aren't tapped. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Seems odd that Echo would require the owner to supply the hardware and tap the holes to mount it.

Well shoot I had no Idea. Thank you sir. For anyone else who comes across this the Part number is V805000240

I'm going to look for a local solution instead from an actual hardware store... not Homedepot

I can now definitely see why the 170 spike would be better. The echo one barely sticks out. Got some button head bolts m5-12 and tapped it myself. Took a minute since it’s just plastic.

Stihl ms170 vs Echo 2511t spikes. The Stihl might be a bit aggressive for the capability of the saw. Hole alignment is another topic.

2511t spike is a little/a lot weak but it's better then nothing. Don't take much of a knot to keep the spike off the tree. Sharp chain makes up for it

I grind the top flange down some and create a hook. I was skeptical it would last, but looks good after a year of daily use. Bolted to a plastic case like that, you don’t want to get too aggressive anyway.

Do you know the part number?
Scratch that question; It appears to be the same part number as the CS-2511t, so the little baby bumper.
