It starts easily and cuts really strong. Oiler, chain brake, choke and interlock, kill switch, throttle all seem good. It came to me with "no spark" but it was just a dirty switch or a shorted connection, which was loose and bare. It is from 1983. It has a nice clean mesh filter, that I forgot to photograph. The gas cap will seep if you don't snug it down. The bar, chain and sheath are optional. Looking for offers, open to cash and trades.

Yes they are very similar.

I have read that the 630/670s were the first Jonsereds made in the Husqv factory.

It has a different carb than the 61 or the 266, Tillotson HS218, that includes a fast idle interlocked with the choke lever, unlike the 1985 266se which has a thumb-catch throttle lock.

And a two-piece cowl, and the non-ergo handlebar, that feel pretty good to me.

Here is the other side of the filter:

Hi John -- Apologies. I have jumped in here unprepared since I am completely out of my zone, both with selling saws and with Jonsereds. I am mostly a husqv guy and mostly a buyer of project saws. I did do a "what's it worth" query here for a friend's Stihl and he ended up selling it at the top of the suggested range and I guess that is what I should have done first with this one. The ones sold on ebay in the low 200s were either not quite working, or with grafted-on parts, and or they were newer, which I think means open port instead of closed port.

Now I'm hoping some experienced members will chime in to get me to the reasonable range. Does anybody like Jonsereds? Are they unusual in good condition? Even wild pitches that draw feedback from the peanut gallery are welcome. I won't take offense. Oh wait. I can do that myself, can't I? How about 550? hUh? As for trades, something sporty and light would be neat or a 394...

I know there must be Jonsereds guys here. Please Help. Don

Note the bar adapter:

Yours is a nice clean saw, older style muffler and clutch/crank, looks to be in great shape. I would take a compression reading and maybe a picture of the piston to help get it sold. Out here in Washington these saws usually sell for $200-$250 in nice shape, but that's just here. A really nice running 630 is a good find.

I think the very early ones had smaller bar studs, and that may be why yours has the spacer.

I don't much about Jreds but it sticks out in my mind that this seriers of saw has a very unique bar mount like 8mm or something like that??? please keep this in mind when Buying this saw other bars may work with help or an adaptor.

Compression read 135, right after I started it on the third pull from cold this morning.

I also have this:

Taking the compression reading this morning I noticed that the forward cowl screw is almost certainly not original.

The bar is a Windsor F38X, 5296, 504 58 32 70, and the owner said it is the original bar.

I'll start off by saying it looks like a nice clean saw but $550.00 seems pretty high. I see Jonsered 630's and 670's on CL occasionally in the $300-$375 range. Bear in mind stuff on this sight usually has to be more reasonably priced. They seem to sell higher on eBay. Just my 2 cents

Thank you for your 2 cents, its worth a whole lot more than that to me. 550, pretty high, yessir. I am grateful to you and all the others who are providing some markers to get toward a fair price. But none of the offers so far have quite reached that range yet.

I use and benefit from this site almost every day so since the Jonsereds is such a clean example, I wanted to show it here first in case a fellow member has strong interest, knowing that the price might not be the highest, but it will be much more fun and more satisfying. Fortunately, I do not have to turn saws to make a buck, which must be a serious challenge for anyone who does. Don

The bar adapter lets you run the old Jonsereds bar (621, 80, 90 etc.) Without the adapter you just run a large mount Husky.
If I were selling that saw I wouldn't take a dime less than $300.

Nope. This series runs an Oregon D009(9mm stud slot).
The bar currently on this saw is an Oregon D024(10mm stud slot), which is correct for the Jonsered 6X-621, 7X-9XX, and many of the other early large frame series, and is also correct for the larger framed Olympyk/OleoMac saws.
The smaller Jonsereds 49SP, etc use a K095.

It is technically correct for this saw as well. Tilton (and perhaps others) supplied the early 630's this way as it was the only Jonsereds at the time to use the D009 bar. This way the dealers did not have to stock another bar. I have only seen the adapter on saws built in 1982 and 1983.
