I have a different thread in here asking about lubing the clutch drum bearing.

I got to use it again today for maybe 15min. I then pulled it apart to see how much grease was left. There was some but not much. The drum was still quite hot which seemed different. When I went to inspect the bearing it is stuck in the drum. I swear I remember this bearing coming out when I first purchased the saw(but I could be wrong)

My question is is the bearing supposed to come out and somehow got seized in place by heat? I actually put a punch on it and gave it a good tap which did nothing. If something is wrong could anyone point me to a replacement drum and bearing?IMG_20160830_183144099.jpgIMG_20160830_183126974.jpg

The joy of owning different makes if saws. Yes Stihl ones do. I just checked an old one off of my saw and it's not coming off.

This is the never version of the clutch drum & needle bearing, the bearing is tight in place (but can be punched out).
Both my saws feature the old style clutch drum & needle bearing, it can be recognized by the larger diameter needles (almost twice the size of those in Your pictures) and the bearing having no outer race (the clutch drums center hole is the outer race).

For peace of mind You could buy Yourself a spare clutch drum assy and give it a try, it is remarkably affordable.

Nate @fordf150 can surely be of help, look here:

I just went through my PS-6400 & PS-7900 last Saturday, said bearings weren't dripping oil, but they weren't bone dry either.
Both saws had about 3-4 tanks of fuel through them since I last pulled off their clutch drums.

EDIT & P.S.:
If I remember I'll take some pictures of both needle bearings, new & old style, tomorrow afternoon after work! :)

that bearing is a press fit, havent checked prices lately enough to have it without looking but i seem to remember the bearing being 2/3 the cost a complete clutch drum that includes a new bearing.

In Germany the needle bearing is about 8Euro while the clutch drum assy (clutch drum and bearing) is priced at about 15 Euro! ;)

Thought so!
He is a great guy to deal with. :)

New clutch drum & needle bearing vs. old style, the new needle bearing features an outer race while the old one doesn't:

For whatever reason AS is flipping some of my pictures , quite annoying!

The old style clutch drum is officially NLA, but the old needle cage bearing is still available under part number 962210024 (Dolmar PS-9010 part ;) )

The new clutch drum+needle bearing is part number 957223092, the needle bearing alone is part number 962300009.
As has been mentioned, the bearing alone costs at least half the price of the clutch drum assy, while the assy itself is priced quite affordable.
The drums center hole is a tight fit for the needle cage and the cage needs to be pressed into the drum.

The old needle cage bearing is 10/16X12 , and the new one is 10/14X12 in size.
The drums have identical measurements, the new style is a bit heavier which makes sense as the needle cage hole diameter is smaller thus leaving more material on the drum.

I for one like the old style bearing featuring the big needles, the needles in the new bearing look rather puny and prone to issues.
