I remember reading somewhere that hickory is hard to buy as a sapling or whatever due to a long taproot or something like that? I know nothing about planting trees and am just looking for some insight better than what google is giving me. Basically a couple years back the hickory behind my garage broke in half, weirdest thing. Had it removed, and now all the sapling s that had been struggling in its shadow are really taking off, everything from 3-7 ft tall. I don't want them growing where the are, so they gotta go, but I'd love to re-plant them somewhere else. Is that even marginally feasible? I figured I'd dig up as many as I could and plant them in a few groups, then hopefully one in each group might survive, or a cull the ones that take off slowest later. there's maybe 20 of em.
thanks!
