Saw this in FarmShow magazine, for cutting branches maybe 4 inch maximum into firewood lengths.

article/pdf is not loading to appear here, but the pdf file does open for me. does it work for anyone else?

Basically, he mounted a saw on the edge of a ATV trailer, with a rod above the top of the bar, linked to the throttle. There is a vertical board near the tip for branch to stop against. Lowering a branch down pushes the rod, takes saw to high idle, then branch reaches the top of the bar and it topcuts the branch. When cut is done, the piece falls into trailer and the rod springs back up and saw returns to idle.

Same idea. Mine is much smaller but works the same and folds up when not in use

This is not the guy in the FS article, but it just popped up on FB chainsaw group page. Video of the idea in action.

Different goal than a sawbuck. It is for much smaller branches, and to cut in the woods not bring wood back to a landing.

I used to scrounge wood and took anything bigger than a couple inches. Once I realized free wood was NOT like finding gold, I became much more selective and productive (aka lazier).

I like the ingenuity though.

Can't get link to work. It is farmmachinery.tv but copy/paste link brings up an ad for a mill that was on the page, surrounding the video of the bench mounted top cutting saw idea. So if anyone knows how to copy FB links, please PM me. Simple copyn link is not working.

Saw it on Bailey's FaceBook page (date January 23, 2017) if it is the same one. Hosted on VideoRu (search 'Give This Man a Medal'), not YouTube, so I can't post link. *These are just screen shots*

Pressing down on the bar with the stick pivots the other end up to push the trigger.

Here's another version:

Lots of stuff in this thread too:

I can turn my ATV trailer into a sawbuck real easy - just take the sideboards off, stick some small poles in the stake pockets, lay down some larger 8 footers lengthwise then 4 or so cross pieces. Presto. Drive to the woods, load up with small stuff, drive to the piling spot, cut it all up in 5 minutes. Have another one i built on a pallet. Throw the pallet on the trailer & away you go. Could also throw it on a road trailer behind a truck too.

(Those thingies up there don't look overly safe....)

@NSMaple1 Do you have any pictures of your ATV trailer/sawbuck?

Not very good ones.

Here's the current version, but it's in a tight spot with some crooked stuff on it. Doesn't look very pretty. It was hot that day & the bugs were bad & wood was crooked & I just wanted to get loaded & out. Which I kinda barely did, was a bit of a load for where I was:

That trailer is 8' long. I put some pretty long stuff on it, likely 14' or so with overhang front & back.

Here's the first one. I don't use this trailer much anymore, way too tippy for my terrain:

I also use a bigger saw than that now with 20" blade, but have to cut from both sides to get it all. Cuts pretty quick.

That's the link.
Someone else posted yesterday a new thread titled 'Problem Solved' and the video is there and runs.

Not the one from the FS article, but same concept.

Both are putting on the ground though. Putting directly into a trailer sounds better thajn picking off the ground.
