So I’m in the process of tracking down a compression tester but the saw a stihl MS362C-M won’t stay running. I pulled the exhaust and wanted opinions on the piston.

The comments on the air filter seem to be from the brown rings on the piston skirt, sort of like it was ingesting sawdust. Is the air filter properly installed?

Also ex port looks a little black like it's running rich but the piston looks pretty dry of oil. Could be the start of carbon build up on piston?

I don't have any scorn for that piston, it still has the original machine marks.

Check you air filter, is anything getting past it into the carb? What sort of mix you running and is this a tuneable carb saw or m-tronic?

Maybe m-tronic is fubar? All my saws have old style carbs and I like it that way.......

The saw has the original air filter so I’ll swap it out and it is the m-tropic model.

You either have an issue with a clogged carb, fuel filter, bad fuel line or bad solenoid I would run the orange bottle stihl oil in it with 93 octane no corn gas or any other good oil

i would clean the saw good, make sure you have clean fresh mixed non-e fuel ....and get a new factory air filter, and run oil ( whatever kind you run).... at 40:1 and watch the piston as you are from the exhaust side.... make sure it ( the) (piston skirt ) .... has a film of oil on it ..if not look for air leaks or solenoid failure .. you could sell and get a 562/572xp ???... :) .
