Gday,

I picked up a Stihl 076AV Super recently to get into milling. I'm pretty new to chainsaws so please bear with me.....

I've replaced the clutch and sprocket as the sprocket was a bit worn and one of the clutch shoes wasn't really worn at all whilst the other two had a bit of wear. I figure starting from fresh isn't such a bad idea being as I also bought a bunch of new chains.

My question is, should the slot in the bar be located hard up against the stud? I've circled in the attached picture what I'm trying to describe - hopefully it's clear enough. I'm aware of how to adjust the chain tension with the grub screw but don't seem to have enough travel to get that slot hard up against the stud.

Thanks in advance for replies,

Josh.

The slot doesn't sit against the stud. The tension pin should be in a bar hole, put the clutch cover on and finger tighten, then tighten the grub screw and finish with the clutch cover nuts. The sand which between the cover and the saw combined with tension pin are what keep the bar and chain in place.

The chain will also stretch with some run time, at that point you will have to retighten.
