Tree Dying - Need ID Help

Hi All,
I have a large tree in the front yard that looks diseased/dying and I would like to starting taking it down limb by limb - before taking the large trunk. Before I get started, I would like to know what kind of tree this is - can anyone help? My research hasn't been successful in finding a tree that looks similar. Appreciate y'all!

I wondered about maple - given the bark, but that huge trunk and squirrelly branches that start so low on the tree had me confused.

Red maple has a tendency to form multi-trunk trees.

I am glad its looking like a maple - should produce a fair amount of firewood from the large branches.
