Anybody know if a JONSERED 630 AND A HUSQVARNA 61 are the same animal?

Close.

The 630 was a kind of hot-rod saw, same displacement as the 61, but revved a bit higher, had a little more power. Jonsered 625 was direct comparison to 61. I'm guessing you're hoping to cannibalize one for parts to fix another. Many parts will interchange as long as you're using similar production periods, but not all.

Cylinder Kit For A Husky 61

I am trying to put new life back in my Jonsered 630 West Coast. I would like to find a reasonable (cheap price) on a new cylinder and piston assembly.I found this web site that has a Husqvarna 61 Cylinder & Piston Assembly for $99.99. I thought it might fit the 630. I know their are several guys that frequent this web site that have the whiskers to know these types of questions. Starting to get dizzy trying to research parts for the 630.

I bought my 630 West Coast new in the late 80s and it's been a great saw.Cut many cords of fire wood, before I bought a pellet stove. Took it out of retirement to cut down a Black Walnut tree and cooked the piston in it. In my search for parts I find they can be found, but they can be very costly. Baby your 630 Super and get a newer saw to do the heavy lifting!!

What is the diff westcoast/super?

Hi, What is different between the westcoast and the super? I am headed over to the local dealer in the morning I could see if they have a piston and price if they do.They are a high volume dealer which used to carry like two models and push those of each manufacture that way they could stock a complete line of parts for what they sold.

The Super is rated 4.3 HP and the West Coast is 3.1 HP. They have different carburetors and the West Coast weights a little more. Bore and stroke are the same on both models. I would appreciate it if you want to check on the cylinder kits at you dealer. I don't have a dealer in my area. The shop where I bought my saw has been long gone!

I'll ask tomorrow/today

I'll ask if they have a cyl kit or if they can get one and how much. You never know.

I thought the 630 was similar to the 262XP, I may be wrong though.
You sure are wrong ! ;)

The 630 and 61 and several other models from 61.5 to 72 cc belong to the 162 family of saws.

The 262xp belongs to the smaller and lighter 154 familiy, and has the largest displacement of the saws in that family. It also had a quite a bit more power output than any of the 61,5 cc saws in the 162 family (162, 61, 61 rancher, 625, 630, 630 Super, 630 West coast, 625 II and 630 Super II)

The 61 cyl. fits right on the 630,BUT dont forget that the block between cyl and carb is different. If you do the change, youll need a fiber block, intake gasket and 2 long bolts that goes tru the carb all the way to the cyl instead of screwing in the carb block on the 630.

You will probably be down-rating the power of your 630 West Coast slightly by using a Husky 61 piston and cylinder.
If it is 61 Rancher p & c, you will loose quite a bit of power. :(

Rather, it may be worth it to investigate if a 670, 670 Super/Champ, 268xp or 272xp top end will fit, and be compatible with the carb and top cover of the 630..... :blob2:

You right about power ,he will need for those models also to change the block or boot between carb and cyl.

SawTroll, good catch on the HP difference, I was thinking that didn't sound right. The West Coast has the full wrap handle, & as I understand it those aren't easy to come by, but I haven't checked. If anyone does find a source for a P&C please post it, or let me know.

Calh, someone here sent me info on a shop in AZ. I'll have to search for the info, but will pass it along if you need it. Also Simonian Saw site says they might have parts for OOP Jreds, http://jonsered.ws/

Hi,
I checked with the local dealer today, they had two manuals for the 630 depending on serial number,I looked up one; part number 503 51 75 02 that is the cylinder kit and their price is $203.44 I am sure plus 5% tax and it is available, would have to order, 5-7 days he thought.Don't know if that is good or bad but they are available according to them.
They have also switched from Jonsered To Husky their reason was the Jonsered distributor was a pain in the tail to work with.

:dizzy: Many thanks for all the good info and a special thanks to Marco  for the private message and the web address of Banta, they have the parts I need at reasonable prices.

;) Thanks for your trouble. Your dealers price for the kit is $100.00 bucks cheaper than most I have found. I am waiting for a used cylinder and piston I bought and hopefully it will be a good one and the 630 will sing again :p :p

The 3.1 hp listed at CSCC is a misprint.
It should be 3.1 kW, which is about 4.2 hp.

 Do you know why Jonsered made the West Coasts Models? Their appears to be very little difference between them and other models ie, 630 West Coasts and 630 Supers.

I had the ole girl out today.
