There are two other active threads covering these families of saws that you may find useful. One is near the top of the chainsaw forum and the other is frankensaw by Briantutt

Rather than putting a 61 top end on it, I'd put a 272 top end on it.. There may still be differences in the carb mounts, but it should fit otherwise.. I put a 272 top end on my 61, and the only real hangup I had was the decomp button had to get trimmed pretty much all the way off in order to clear the chain brake handle.
I got a Farmertec top end with all top and bottom end gaskets, bearings, seals, fuel line and spark plugs for about $60 on Ebay. Saw was stroked, ported and piped at the same time, and despite it being cheap crap, it's held up better than expected.. You get what you pay for, but $60 should get you going again

Oh, I'd also like to add.. you should at least take the muffler off before you do anything else and look at the condition of the piston.. There's a possibility just a set of rings would get you going again as well

I have never judged a piston before but I'm guessing by its rather scored nature that I need a new top end.

Are there directions anywhere? I've seen everything from 48 to 52mm being mentioned in relation to these saws and replacement cylinders, but I'm not 100% sure which mine is. Since I'm a complete greenhorn at this I want to be 200% sure what I'm doing before I actually start doing it

61, 272, 266 seem to be compatible on the 630 if I recall correctly with some differences like course thread and fine thread clutch, different throttle adj, different mufflers, dissimilar top covers, even different size carb bolts.
I put a 181 intake boot on a 272 mounted on a 61 chassis. Some starter covers don't seem to be compatible, plus the fore handle on the huskies are different than the 630.

a scored piston means you really ought to have a new piston, the cylinder could be just fine still. Gotta tear it apart to know for sure.. it's only a couple bolts to do
