Is there such a thing? I asked the Stihl dealer to get us a couple reels of Chisel chain in Picco he said it doesnt exist...is this true? What about brands other than Stihl?

I really don't believe they make a full-chisel Picco chain. My question is, if top-handles are known for being particularly dangerous in terms of kickback, why would you want to switch to an even more kick-back prone chain? Doesn't seem like a safe recipe to me...

I have always only been able to get 3/8" lo profile in PM1 safety chain from Stihl. As for full chisel...he's right, nobody makes it for 3/8" lo pro....can the MS200T haul .325"? I don't know....? The motor seems big enough, if it has a rim sprocket as opposed to a spurk you should be able to do it. You are probably also aware that youc an get 91VS or 30LP from Bailey's which is 3/8" LP and still semi chisel...but much much faster and more aggressive than the Stihl 63PM1 or Oregon 91VG.

I seem to recall oregon once did produce a lp chisel chain, I believe it was 77LG, or something like that. never was too sure on it, but someone has proof of its existance I'm sure.

No chisel chain in Sthil Picco, the Oregon boys also say no chisel in their brand for this size chain. We went over this awhile ago trying to convince JPS that he couldn't get chisel chain for his 020. I don't think we quite got the job done, though

I would go to a new dealer. I have a large supply of 63PM in 14" and 16" loops. It is a non-safety chain. If they are telling you all they can get is PM1 they are full of beans. The 63PM is still a semi-chisel chain but at least it is not safety chain like the PM1.

Yeah I had a friend whose dealer wouldn't sell him anything aggressive in 3/8" LP, and they carry(or used to) Oregon as well. I thought they would at least give him 91VS. I have been told only the 63PM1 for Picco by all the local dealers, even the pros seem to have it.

I agree. 63PM is pretty much all we sell to tree services in my area... I use it myself an it cuts real well. I figure most injuries with a top handle saw are from "misuse" or accidental chain contact, rather then traditional "kickback", and any chain you use, 63pm, 63pm1 or 2, or not, will cut you about the same.

any chain regardless of type will cut flesh like a surgeon does, just less precisely. the trick to avoiding injury, is VERY simple, caution, proper use of the tool at hand, and proper PPE too. sharp dull, or even razorblade sharp chain will cut skin just as easily.

Yeah it will all tear you up...I have heard that the injuries with a tophandle result from carelessness. It tells on you because of closer proximity of the hands to the bar and chain. The key is real simple, don't let the saw's teeth touch your skin. I've never had much kickback from either of my small stihls I can't imagine the MS200T would be different, but I can see how you could get cut if you were careless.

Most top handle injuries are to the "other hand". Holding a branch with say your left while you cut it with the right. The saw can skip down the branch and nail you. Stihls sell a nice pair of safety gloves, but they are too puffy to use in the real world.

Interestingly Stihl says "DON'T use the 200t single handed, and puts warning stickers on the saw to "remind" you. Hmmm... I guess Stihl's lawyers don't climb.

That's what I thought...NOT kickback injuries though. Nobody eevr answered if you could run the .325" pitch cahin on a MS200T though. Seems liek it would pull it just fine ona 16" bar.

From the Stihl parts system:

.375 picco is standard. Not sure why anyone would want 325 over 3.8 picco, but...

.325 sprocket/worm part number : 1129 640 2004 - show as not available at Stihl NW. Might try Canada or Stihl Midewest, or somewhere else.

1/4 inch sprocket/worm part number : 1129 640 2051 - NOT for the USA.Not sure who, but someone is using them. Carvers would like to get hold of this...

Note that you have to change the oil pump work worm when changing sprockets.

You can't run .325 on any 020 past or present, no .325 sprockets that will swap over. The only other chain that will change over is 1/4 pitch. Why would you want to run .325?? Bigger chain would just drag the saw down.

Boston Bull- that is one of the best questions ever asked here. Is sure wish I could get a chain like 73 lg chisel for my ms 200. Aggresive full chisel would be the cats meow. J. Ashley, don't rely on chain design to save your ass, rely on your own skill and carefull saw use.

LoveIt, Lakeside! Too often true! Sometimes I think the engineers and environmentalists don't climb either, but I think the engineers on the 200t DO climb. Great saw used carefully.

Always trusted the Techs, they've been there and done that.

I honestly try to use two hands whenever possible, but some times I've only got one hand for the saw and one hand for me. I'll let the ropes handle the branch I'm cutting on, and I trust the flipline and climbing line to handle my weight, but sometimes I need a hand for balance.

The .325 sprocket and oil pump drive gear can be had. The only possible problem is trying to find a bar under 16" with a .325 tip.

Well don't you guys at Baileys have a 16" Pro Lite to fit the MS mount or not? Seems like that would work. Might work better on an 009 though. No replacement for displacement!
