well i got the thing back and as i said before its real torquy. its got an 16 inch lp chain on it an i can bury the chain in a 20 inch log ,and shell hold around 7000 or so. now what im wondering is will the saw respond well to opening the muff up a bit. its old but does seem to have a very restricted mufler on it. will this saw take turning it up or am i best to leave it like it is. any advice appreciated. thanks tony.

As you may or may not know, I have an older one myself. Mine had a little sheet metal cover with louvers in it and under that it had a screen. I removed the screen and it seemed to run a little stronger, but I can’t say for sure. Nothing like what happened when I opened up the muffler on my 372.

The 009 is a reed valve saw, by design it will produce more low end torque than a ame sized piston ported engine. That said, the limitation of the reed valve design is lack of high rpm power. A zebra can't change its stripes.

alrite. just what i needed to know.
i like it pretty well tho as she cranks first pull after shes been running. thats real important if i ever climb another tree:) .
