Here is a pic of a Stihl 015L currently listed on Ebay with a bow bar.

I know bows are more popular in the south & I've never used one, but why on a 32 cc top handle saw?

Is this someone's idea of a hedge trimmer after too many soda pops on a Saturday afternoon?

not too many knows much about them things. i got one but never put it to wood yet. the wd i get,, is they were popular with the black pulp wood workers,in this area , at one time.they used the bar to control where the tree fell. that and their hip . they say they had it dn to an art.
we ve had bowater,, a big paper processer dn close to vanwyk sc,, for a long time so i guess the story could be true.as to the little saw ,different strokes. could be a ladies pulp wood special.

Pretty weird. Who knows how that came about? Once upon a time back when I was a teenager my father and I drove a few hundred miles to help a friend who had gotten a forest thinning contract. The plan was for us to help him cut some of it for a couple of days. We would show his crew how to cut and we would salvage a load of corral poles to make something out of the deal. Super nice guy. Best of intentions. First forest work ever in his life. Not knowing much of anything about it he thought "small trees -you only need a small chainsaw". He had bought Poulan Micro 2000's for the whole "crew". Fortunately it was a small contract and I think that they eventually got it done and even made 2 or 3 dollars over expenses. The little saws were perhaps the best for his highschool senior crew to learn on but....SO SSSLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

Bill - LMAO!

I'm just really curious how the dang thing handles! With your hands kind of close together with the top handle style, I would think the leverage generated by the bow in a kickback situation would be severe.

Have fun with it, but as always be careful.

Note - I'm sure your wife will, no doubt, point out what a loving, kind husband you are, when you present her with that "gadget".

Mike:D

I see them from time to time around our area, the Christmas tree growers use them some.

It will be interesting to see what "it was running a few years ago" really means. The picture shows at least one part missing. I do not really expect it to be great but hopefully it is not scored or worse locked up.

Bill
