I scored a 020 from a pawn shop (sent girlfriend in, she talked nice to ego man salesman and got me if for a pretty good deal.
I have had to do a few things to it including replace the exhaust (thank god for having a spare!)

Okay 2 things, 3 fins are missing from the fan on the flywheel (as part of the exhaust had broken off and gone up to where it shouldnt have gone!), is this going to cause an imbalance or lack of cooling bad enough to cause any trouble?

Second problem is that the thing wont idle, I have turned the idle up all the way, and have put the carb back to stock settings, it runs okay just wont idle-what could be up with it?

I love to 020.s and would love to get this one working for the other climber I work with.
So I send these questions off to yee the gods of all saw knowledge (well your better than god really, you always answer my prayers.)

I'll tackle the flywheel question. It MUST be replaced! A chip missing from one fin is enough to thow it out of balance, 3 missing fins will surely do it in. Just hope the last guy didn't run it like that and wipe out the bottom end.

Thanks gentlemen! I will replace that wheel as soon as and might try the spare carb I have as well to see if it does any better (although the spare has done alot more work!).

After undoing the main nut holding the wheel on, how do you get the sucker off? gentle force or is it locked in another way?

Howdy,
You need to back the nut off til it's flush with the end of the crankshaft. Lift the saw by gripping the flywheel with one hand and tap the shaft with a small brass hammer in the other hand.

I do the same as Dog, but I don't like to hit the small nuts on these saws. Had one get crooked and nearly destroy the threads. Every crank I've seen has a small dimple in both ends of the shaft. If you can, get a friend to hold the flywheel like Dog described and and use a hammer and punch on the dimple. Can't mess up the threads that way.

Make sure the saw doesn't have a long way to fall and do it over something soft--block of wood, your yard, etc.

Looking over my post, I see I impled that a block of wood is soft. Obviously, it isn't. I just meant that it is something that won't damage the crank end.

If you do you hit your girlfriend, better hope she doesn't know to climb trees!!!
