This is my first post. I've been seaching for info on my 024 and found this site. Been hooked ever since.

My long time favorite chainsaw, an 024AV bought around 1985, siezed up about four years ago. The dealer quoted me almost $300 to rebuild the saw and carb and told me $200 was the Stihl price for the new cylinder and piston. I kept the saw in hopes I could get it running again and bought a Husky 350 to replace it.

About a month ago I bought a new aftermarket piston and cylinder kit, not sure if it was correct for my saw but willing to try it. Turns out it is for a 026, which has a slightly larger bore and stroke from the 024. The 024 and 026 seem to share a lot of parts. I can buy a used 024 crankcase/crank for about $50. Can I swap the flywheel, ignition, clutch and gastank/handle from the 024 over to the 026 case?

Thanks!
Brad

On further seaching, looks like I would be better off finding a 026 parts saw and put the new 026 piston/cylinder on that. It's usually not hard finding a seized saw for fairly cheap. Sell the 024 to recoup some of my $$$. Thinking out loud here.

Talk about hooked- about a month ago I went cutting with an old friend of mine that I haven't seen in a long time. Eric has an 044 and I got to try it. That is the largest pro saw I've ever used and I had a grin from ear to ear. The next day I was searching for info on my 024 and ran across this site. Next thing I know I've bought a used 440!

Howdy DOK,

Careful now your showing symptoms. It don't look good for you. Sorry about your 024. Hope you get her rebuilt and back in the wood.

Well, collecting chainsaws has to be easier on the wife than collecting old Dodge pickups. I sold the last of them  but I can't stop fixing things. Never considered chainsaws until I found this place. There is so much information here I can't stay away.

I know what you mean..............my fever is starting to level out
