It late sun setting so I took it apart to get another pressure test last one worked and so did saw. I took carb off and had my piston all the way up and I could see the connecting rod through the manifold.

It is covered in gray gunk, thick mud. I doubt the impulse could work. Looks like a cave a mile under earth. I have never seen anything like it. Wish I had a hole camera. That has to be the problem. I wonder if that's really bad fuel. Like Sandy mucous

I use av100. It's had 2-3 tanks in it

Be careful cleaning that saw, lead will absorb through your skin. Wear those medical type gloves you can get at walmart.
May not be a good idea running leaded gas in a chainsaw, I have before...your mouth, nose and lungs are close to the exhaust.

Thank you I will. I have gloves. I hope I can get it out. Would be helpful to figure out what it is to clean it effectively. It's gritty. I am surprised it even ran. It's interesting the stuff I run into

Think of it as aluminum paste, aluminum dust mixed with oil and fuel. Piston will be very undersized now.
That is possible but it's not, hopefully. It's not abrasive, the piston appearance is great, in the end I will open it up if needed and would replace piston and rings while in there. I took a long screw driver and scraped some of it out and it had wood fibers in it. I think it was the worst oil and wood. I will try to burn some tomorrow.

When I got it the coil had been rubbing on the flywheel. I figure that's why it was in the pawn shop, was not running right. I found one of the screws had wallowed it's anchor. I fixed that. So after sleeping on it, it's possible, that his fuel combustion was so incomplete the mud is the result. The carb was totaled and the air filter was in tatters. I looked at piston but did not raise it.

Another thing that might have added to the mix was the EDTA that I used to decarbonize the engine.

But your suggestion is possible and will be helpful as i move forward. Burning some will be helpful.

I gotta get the impulse channel cleaned out or I will just have a clean engine and still running trouble. I need a small wire or maybe some canned air

You have already taken enough "shortcuts", which by definition is the longest distance between two points. These engines come apart easy. That way you can completely assess any damage and do a proper cleaning AND you'll then have a reliable saw to use!

Oh, and quit using LL AV gas. Some of the toxic soup inside the engine might just be from the lead in the gas getting the past the rings. Once it gets into the crankcase it may not come out so easy as I doubt it is soluble in gasoline.

About 10 posts back I said drop it. You keep being helpful. A discussion is fine and I kept participating. I also thought it was interesting. Your advice has went to far and I do not need it any longer. I will continue to use av100 and you can let that brother you if you wish.

You do realize gasoline itself is a toxic soup made up of 150 to 1000 separate compounds?

It appears he has a unique take on lead in av fuel. He was concerned I use gloves, not bad advice in itself, it's just not that big a deal since I do not wash my hands in it. And it does not ooze out of gas and collect in the cylinder after 3 tanks. All discussed

I recommended you wear gloves cleaning equipment after running leaded fuel.
