Hi, folks! I have an 025 that I'm fixing up for the wife. I took the whole thing down to nuts and bolts today and cleaned everything and I'm noticing that it is a really pretty little saw that has seen very little use. The plastic is all perfect and it is almost completely devoid of normal scuffs and scrapes. The only thing that concerns me is that the piston is badly torched. This saw just doesn't look like it has seen enough use to smoke the piston like that.

Do these saws have a problem or something? I know they are a homeowner saw (horizontally split case, open porting), but people do seem to like them. It would be nice to get a mechanic's perspective.

Also, what's the best stuff to clean off that gasket material?..... I have not had a saw in which that stuff was quite so tenacious.

Thanks in advance...

You clean the Dirko gasket material off with a medium abrasive pad (pink) in a die grinder or high speed drill.

It only takes a minute or so on straight gas to ruin a perfectly good piston... The saws last and last and last on 50:1 2 cycle mix...

That's what I would suspect. Mine is very reliable and has good power. She will like it.

Jeeze, I plumb forgot people did that... but it makes perfect sense. I guess the previous owner's loss is my gain..or my wife's anyways. Gettin' pretty close on this one..the bore cleaned up pefectly and I'm just waiting for a piston from Curt Bailey, who is always tremendously accomodating. Apparently there are a few different sizes and I either have the 42mm or the 42.5mm size. I had to send him the piston as my stone-age measuring devices cannot discern .5 mm.

BTW, he has had to change the name of his EBAY store as the Bailey's people have raised a legal stink. Too bad, since his name is Bailey.

I'm very much looking forward to comparing the 025 to my Husvarna 41/141s. The Huskys have served me better than I expected but it will be fun to have something to compare them to.
