I have already had my 026 muffler modded by Walkers Saw Shop. I am getting the updated dual port muffler from stihl for my MS 440 tomorrow. Do I need to set the saws richer. How do I set the saws to a richer setting. Details please. I do not want to POP the saws. I did a search for this and found nothing regarding settings. Thanks !!:blob2:

Ummm, you should find tons regarding adjusting the carb. Search for carb adjustment. And yes you need to open up the screws. If you're not confident about it, take it to your dealer and let him set it. Definitely don't run them lean.

BTW, the dual port cover is considered a regression rather an update. Stihl stopped factory installing them, and it doesn't even show up on my current parts list. Got the part number off of this forum.

They sure run sweeter with dual ports, and Stihl's look nice.

Thank you for the replies. Should I turn the "H" screw out 1/8 of a turn on the MS440. I just put on the Stihl Factory made muffler that has the larger port in the front? Thanks for the help. I just am not sure if decreasing backpressure causes a saw to run a little leaner and needs to be compensated. The link provided above did not address it.:)

adjustment

It isn't so much just turn it out a little as readjust the hi and low for proper idle, acceleration and power. If I did not know how, I would have someone who does, (I want to say dealer, but it seems like we are few and far between. Let's say a good saw tech). Saws are not all the same to adjust, even in the same make and model.
