Fellas (and ladies)... I need a good source for a top-end overhaul kit for a 026 pro. The local shop wants over $300 for the parts alone! Help! Great saw down with compression probs. I am in withdrawls...

Top end is definetly worn out. The saw is 2-3 years old and has seen A LOT or use. Pretty good shape other than the comp. is no longer there. Still has all the pieces on it though :)
Thanks for the link... I never thought to check Ebay for parts before... Duh!

you gets what you pay for

I disagree, I think that aftermarket top ends are kinda like computer hard drives. Only a few companies make them and they all seem very good. There are several things aftermarket that are better than OEM and several things that are worse. Some are no different just private labeled. It is not always what you pay for. I have bought some real expensive things in my life and many have wore out faster than the cheap stuff. I have had several DVD players to prove that theory. I don't think they have an aftermarket 026 pro top end just the 026 version. Good luck to you.

I got a new gen-u-whine Stihl cylinder & piston kit for an 024 on eBay for $50. Not a Chinese copy.

The chinese aftermarket cyclinders that are avialble now stink. Ask Ed or JJ as both have used them. And yes there is a aftermarket 260 jug available.
Its really hard to beat a Mahle cylinder(oem or porsche,BMW, etc).

:)

Lewee, the saw was purchased new by our company 2-3 years ago (before my time), and I am left to try and fix it up rather than throw it away. While I haven't taken the jug to the machine shop to have it miked-out, it appears to have a good bit of abrasion from dirt ingestion. Seems that the guys responsible for maint. before me didn't take their jobs serious enough... :(
The link on Ebay says they are aftermarket Stihl parts, so I am going to give them a try.

If the saw has significant dirt ingestion signs, then I'd also be checking the crank bearings too.
