026 rebuild port and 044 carb!

Ok so here is my free saw I am pulling it all apart cleaning it painting porting it then I will install a 044 carb. Saw had 150 psi compression the only bad thing was a stripped bar stud. Yesterday I ground some carb housing and got the 044 carb to fit into the housing. Had to remove a portion of the top will post pics of that later. Sorry for the pics not sure how to get them to just show up in the posting.

Thats what I was/am going to do next!Just asked about what carb I needed tonight!I think it'll be a fun little saw.Been thinking about welding up a piston for it also.I have a maintaince man at work who's really good with a tig.Was going to let him try out an old piston first then buy a new on from Baileys if he can do it.Can't wait to here how yours turns out.Video???please.

I have read were others have put an 044 carb an 026 and it ran well. The only issue was it idled high I think it was 3500 as a result of the size of notch in the throttle butterfly. I have fixed that so I should be fine.

I will sure try to get a video up not exactly sure how to do that but I think my camcorder is digital and can do that. My wife may seriously start to worry about me when I ask her to videotape me cutting a log.

Progress pics

Here are some progress pics I painted crankcase yesterday. Carb is all set housing is all set I need to put the crankcase together to get some measurments. I think I am going to have the squish band on the piston lowered .005 to get correct squish and run no base gasket. Tried to have pics included not sure if it work lets see.

Why did you make that plate for the metering diaphram side of the 044 carb? Doesn't it need a hole in it like all other metering diaphram covers?

Yeah, it does look really good. The paint almost looks wet.

It had that big walboro snorkle on it so I cut it off made the plate to cover the big hole then put a 1/16 hole in the plate.

The extension on the rod is a thought as sort of a manual choke. But idealy and I am thinking of modifying the stock filter housing and making a new flap for the choke. The extension is the easy way and I am almost never satisfied with the easy way. Must be the most difficult, kind of a lets just see if I can do it. Waiting for the new carb studs and filter so I can fit everyting first.

Exactly. And that's why I'd like to come up with a new solution. I think it might be pretty easy to extend the arm on the master control switch to extend up and catch the arm on the carb.

The problem I see with that is now that the filter is behind the lever it goes the wrong way. I am thinking of some kind of very small cable that wraps around the shaft and closes the butterfly. I will come up with something and if you do let me know.
