I am in the process of removing the bottom handle unit from my 028WB. I think its ready to come off, except for the carburetor. How do you remove the two screws that holds it in? I know I should know how to do this..but I'm having a brain cramp. The very end of the handle snaped off..so I am replacing the whole thing.

The screws come out with the handle. Remove the metal sleeve from the carb boot, and collapse the boot and push it into the hole in the handle. The handle will then come off. Watch the impulse line, as it has to disconnect either from the nipple on the cylinder or be pushed out of the hole in the handle.

Ok, so is the metal sleeve the one that is keeping the boot on the cylinder? I can do that, the only problem is getting it back on with no room to work. I did this with a 032 the other day and it was only by dumb luck I got it slid back on the cylinder and tightened down again. Probably im not suppose to be doing this without taking the cylinder off? HOw do you slide it back on?

sorry for being a little numb.

The boot comes out of the tank/handle assembly it stays on the cylinder. Pull the carb and look at the boot where the carb mounts, there is a lillte metal ring inside the boot, pull it out. This ring keeps the boot in place when the saw is together. Collapse the boot and push it though the hole in the handle towards the cylinder. When putting it back together you can wind some thin rope ( a boot lace works good) around the boot and put the loose end through the hole in the tank/handle, a gentle tug while unwiding the rope will seat the boot nicely. Then pull the rest of the rope out gently so you don't damage the boot .

thanks! I think i have it now. I was having trouble pulling the carb after I had taken the two nuts off.. this will be much easier.
