028 parts saw

My Brother in law dropped a tree on his 028 a couple of weeks ago and broke the bar off. Ruined the clutch cover and whatever the piece is the bar studs are in.
I told him shouldn't be any problem to find a junk saw on Ebay for $30 or $40.
Was I ever wrong, saws with bad jugs and pistons and missing parts are going over $125.00 plus shipping. He keeps asking if I've found anything yet.
He bought a new 290 last week, so maybe we can hold off til they get cheaper.

I told him maybe we should forget about fixing it, and sell it on Ebay, might get enough to buy a brand new saw, the way some of those saws are selling.

028's fixed up for retail sale go like hot cakes here... for over $250 in reasonable shape, and one yesterday for $279 (nice saw, but 20 years old!). Can't keep them on the shelf.

If he broke the saw where the bar studs are mounted, that's part of the crankcase. It's a major repair, not that difficult, just requires a complete tear down and rebuild. Lots of good info on this site in search, on how to do that.

The 028 has had a few different versions of the crankcase, a 3 screw recoil and a 4 screw recoil cover. The chain adjuster, under the bar studs was updated over the years too. So, you need to let us know which crankcase he needs. I have quite few cases and 028 parts, but let me know which he needs.
