I've read all archives on muffler mods, The inside half of muffler on this 028 super has a baffle box with holes only on the sides(no hole directly in front of exhaust port). After reading all archives, should I completely remove the entire box or just add holes? If adding holes is the answer, where? I don't want to mess up & there were no threads that were specific to 028s. Thanks, Lee

holes in baffle

I drilled some holes in the baffle ( basket) use a bit about the same width as the basket and drill the holes next to each other, as to drill the bottom out of it, this allows gases to excape easier, the basket is a epa thing

The 028 super has not been made in at least 10 years and probably does not have the restrictive muffler of new saws. I opened up the muffler on my 038 magnum and it made no improvement on the cutting time. I have two 028 supers and decided not to mess with their mufflers. The 028 and 038 are in the same saw series.

I think deadtrees is right about the 028/038 mufflers not being that retrictive. I still drilled out the baskets some more and opened the outlets up a bit. No real notice in cutting time improvement.

I found the same thing on my 038 Mag.
You have to agree, they look great, and make a nice sound, so I think it's worth it.
I will probably do my 028 Super since I am going to replace it anyway.
