028 without chain break?

Did Stihl produce the 028WB and 048 chainsaw without a complete functioning chain break? There are some differences in the crankcase castings that would seem to indicate that. The cases have the correct 4 digit prefixes but are different from the other corresponding cases.

Yes. The old 028 WB never had a brake and cannot be retrofitted. The 028AV changed at somepoint in production to a brake; the 028AV Super all had brakes.

Not sure about the 048... The few I have seen all had brakes.

Thanks for the information. I am not sure about the 048 either. When I was assembling the last of my 028 goodies that case surprised me. I really like the 028 but want them with a chain break. Thanks again.
