Picked up this 028AV last week in excellent condition with original case and few accessories such as bar cleaning tool STIHl file handle 2 scrench sockets and handle key and long star bit key and some old wood cutting manual…picked it up from a yard equipment mechanic who specializes in chainsaws he had a whole shelf of good saws but the 028 stood out to me.. 225$ for everything got it home fired right up took it inside and cleaned it up well… iv heard nothing but great things about the 028 like they are one of the best saws Stihl ever made
They are the work horse of the Stihl line
They are the chainsaw that saved stihl
They are the home owner saw built like a pro saw and what I hear most is they are gas guzzling tanks! Maybe that’s why they last so long sucking lots of gas keeping everything cooled and lubed well…maybe… anyway STiHl could not give me a date because they don’t keep the 028 logged but from the 214456791 number I assume from 1979-1980 cuz that’s when the AV wood boss model was made…not sure if anyone has any more info on that.. but this saw sure does have some power.. for what I need it for anyway just a good firewood cutter and it perform that well!

This is why I recommended one for the guy in another post wants a saw to clear a few acres- but wants cheap.
028 fits those bills and whilst maybe not the fastest- seem to keep going forever.

One of the best, perhaps so in the CC class.
028 is a mini 038 essentially, they’re both built the same aside from displacement and physical dimensions. 028/038 are perfect zombie apocalypse saws.
