031 module

hello i have an old 031 with pionts and want to put in a atom module. what color do i need . one saw shop that i stopped at told me that they run best on the yellow one. another guy told me the brown one. and, one guy told me to get a mega fire. what do i do? please help!!!
by the way this saw is my back up. new years night some one got into my truck and stole my 056 mag and my ms250. i am kinda in a bind having no saw.

Do yourself a favor and keep the points......none of the modules work well with Bosch coil units particularly with the stock ignition timing......can you say bawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww they will not tach out to spec

Do a search on AS - lots of post about ths conversion. You'll see some disagreement here about how to go about it.

To get the timing correct, I believe you need to either move the existing flywheel postion (tricky - really easy to get it wrong...) or put on a real electronic version flywheel. Others disagree.

I move the flywheel using an electronic verison flywheel as a template, and use the Stihl or brown atom.

And as pest says - nothing wrong with the points system - a new condenser, quick burnish of the points, adjust, and it will run another 25 years.

Been there too many times to count

When you do get your timing so it tachs out on top the bottom to midrange gets wonky and it is hard to start when it's cold....The points if still good do last forever and the chips don't like to cooperate....I have yellow and brown modules if you insist but I can't recommend them for these saws

You need the orange module. It works, but I think it is NLA.

brown, the instructions specifically say to hook wires up backwards for 031, did one 5? years ago, sold it, guy loves it

Orange replaced/superceded with the pink module.....have not tryed a pink one maybe I will.....The brown won't fire unless you wire it backwards The yellow module is to replace the trigger module on Electronic ignition modules only not for points replacement

I use one called (nova) a little larger then the atom or stihl's and have changed over many 031's but being larger can be a problem mounting on some saw's. will mount in the air (carb) box in a 031. it's much easier to make the change then stay with point's and in many case's cheaper.
